8 Reasons Why Minecraft Is The Perfect Educational Tool

Minecraft has been an incredibly popular game for well over a decade and since its creation, it has had quite a reliable fanbase that is completely dedicated to the game. With any video game, there are people out there that don’t understand why so many people play it and there are even people out there that think that Minecraft can have a negative impact on the intelligence of our children.

This is not the case at all and there are many ways that Minecraft can be used as an excellent educational tool here are just some of the ways that Minecraft can be used in this way.

#1 – Improves Teamwork Abilities

One of the biggest ways that Minecraft can help your children educationally is by improving their ability to work as a team and collaborate with other people. Though you can play the game in single-player, you can also play in multiplayer mode and this allows you to enjoy the game with your friends. This means that your children can play with their friends and try to solve tasks together, which is something that they will then be able to apply to real-life experiences and it can help them during their education.

#2 – Problem-Solving Skills

In Minecraft, you constantly run into problems that you have to face. Even if you are not looking for a problem to solve, it is easy to just be walking around the game and then fall into a cave where you need to fight mobs. The game can be a pretty quick pace and so players need to be able to solve issues as quickly as possible. Once again, these skills can be applied to real-life events and they can be incredibly useful.

#3 – Maths

Something that you may not be able to expect is that Minecraft is actually a great place for your children to improve their maths. There are a lot of mathematical aspects that you have to take into account, for example, counting your blocks and keeping on top of how many resources you need. You also need to work out formulas for what you need when it comes to crafting what you need. This can take a lot of time to work out and doing this can really help with your child’s maths abilities and you will notice that they are improving in school.

#4 – Creativity

Creativity is a very important skill to have. Studies have shown that there is a correlation between a child’s creativity and their ability to absorb information in school. This is why classes such as arts and crafts are so important and vital to our children’s education, but unfortunately, all of these classes are extremely underfunded and they do not get the attention that they deserve. As you probably know, on a Minecraft server they can place blocks to build anything they can imagine and so this gives them a lot of chance to exercise their creativity and improve their overall intelligence.

#5 – Reading and Writing Skills

Another way that Minecraft can be used as a great educational tool is through the way it helps our children learn to read and write. In the game, you are going to encounter very detailed instructions and rule books. When you are playing the game, you also encounter a lot of scrolls and books that tell you a lot more about the game and if you are unable to understand these rules, then your gameplay will suffer. Through being constantly exposed to these books and instructions in the game, your child is actually improving their ability to read and write.

#6 – Memory

As I stated before, when you play the game there is a lot that you have to remember. You have to remember how to craft and the resources that you need in order to travel through the map and enjoy your gameplay. There are also a lot of mobs that you are bound the encounter throughout the game and you have to remember how to take on all of these mobs and stop them from blowing up your base. With the improved memory that you get from the game, you will be able to apply this to your education.

#7 – Mapping

One of the newest features of the game is map creating. The game can be incredibly big and there is a lot of lands that you have to discover. If you go on a ten-minute journey and you don’t really know your way back, it can be easy to get lost and lose all of the progress that you have built throughout the game. Thanks to the new map feature of the game, you can now pinpoint where all of the major landmarks on your map are and if you need to visit them again in the future, you can just use the maps.

#8 – Coding

One of the best parts about Minecraft is being able to make your own server. With personal servers, you can host games for your friends and play whichever game mode you may wish to play. To be able to run these servers, you need to have a basic understanding of coding, otherwise, you cannot run your servers at all. In the working world of today, coding is very important and a lot of the jobs in the future are going to be tech-based and so if your child learns about coding from a young age, they can apply this to their working lives in the future.
